At Okanagan Hockey, we offer three streams of goaltender camps: Development, Advanced and Specialty. These camps, along with our Hockey Canada and Intensive Goalie Camps, provide goaltenders of all ages and levels the opportunity to take their game to the next level.
“What I like about this camp format, is that is provides the opportunity to elevate your ability to compete within a practice or game situation, which will enhance your overall performance," said Okanagan Hockey Camps instructor and three-time Stanley Cup champion, Andy Moog. "Goaltenders are always an integral part of a team, I can’t stress that enough, it is a team. Their ability to contribute to the team’s performance, is essential to a goalie’s success.”
Our Development Goalie Program is a week long camp that teaches the building blocks of fundamental goaltending skills. The Camp operates in conjunction with our Development Skaters Camp and is for Goalies aged 7 to 12 years old offered in three different age groupings: 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12.
The Advanced Development camp for goaltenders focuses on the refinement of fundamentals skills both on and off the ice while advancing into more complex and sophisticated drills and teaching techniques. The Camp operates in conjunction with the Advanced Development camp for players and is for goalies aged 9 to 17 years old. Age groupings offered are: 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, and 15-17.
The goaltenders position within our Specialty Camps (Defence Camp, Shooter and Scorers Camp, and the Battle and Compete Camps) focuses on the refinement of fundamental skills both on and off the ice. On the ice the goalies become involved into a series of more complex and sophisticated drills that are part of the specific specialty camp that is being taught. The Camp operates in conjunction with the specific Specialty Camp for players and is for goalies aged 11 to 17 years old. The camps are offered in the same age groupings as Minor Hockey for the upcoming season (11/12, 13/14, and 15-17).
“The benefit of our Development, Advanced and Specialty Goalie Camps are that they provide a good mix between structured goalie instruction, and the chance to execute the learned skills during practice and game situations with players your same age," said Tyler Love, Okanagan Hockey Camps Instructor and Goalie Coach for the Okanagan Hockey Academy and Portland Winterhawks. "All of this is happens while receiving continuous constructive and positive feedback from your goalie instructor. Considering the amount of ice time you get in camp (three sessions a day), by the end of the week, not only have you built a great relationship with your goalie instructor, but you’ve made positive developments in your knowledge, abilities, and confidence as a goalie.”
1 - Introduction of specific goalie skills
2 - Creatively play with and get comfortable with the learned skills
3 - Begin to feel what is right or wrong with proper execution of learned skills
4 - Reinforce quality execution to build good habits and muscle memory
5 - Add speed and power to execution of learned skills
6 - Re-create game situations where we can use the skills worked

Choosing Okanagan Hockey Academy was one of the best decisions I have made for my development. The relationships I built with my teammates, coaches, and staff are bonds that will last a lifetime. The structure of the program on and off the ice prepared me to play junior hockey.
