Staal, 27, joins OHA Edmonton after a seven-year professional playing career at the NHL and AHL levels, along with time spent in the ECHL and the United Kingdom.

“I am so excited to join OHA Edmonton,” said Staal. “I would like to thank Andy Oakes and Randall Weber for bringing me onto their staff and can’t wait to get started. I look forward to working with all the talented athletes and helping them reach their full potential both on and off the ice.”

The Thunder Bay, Ont. product was selected in the second round, 49th overall, by the Phoenix Coyotes at the 2008 NHL Draft. After a four-year junior hockey career with the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves, Staal went on to play seven seasons at the professional level, including two games played with the Carolina Hurricanes, alongside his brothers, Eric and Jordan.

Off the ice, Staal is involved with the Staal Family Foundation, which is a family foundation motivated by the desire to give back to communities, by providing support and opportunities for children and families fighting cancer. To date, the foundation has raised over $1-million for local charities.
