Okanagan Hockey Ontario adds 16U team for next season

Feb 22, 2019

Okanagan Hockey Ontario (OHO) is pleased to announce the addition of a 16U team beginning in the 2019-2020 season.

“We would like to thank the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and Ontario Hockey Federation for supporting us with the expansion of our program,” said Paul Pascuzzi, OHO Business and Operations Manager. “Adding a 16U team will allow us to continue to build our culture and support student athletes in their long-term development. We are looking forward to having student athletes in our program for multiple years, see them develop as hockey players and watch them grow as students and members of the community in Whitby.”

“The Okanagan Hockey Group (OHG) looks forward to the addition of a 16U program to our Ontario operations,” said Dixon Ward, OHG Vice-President. “This age group, in conjunction with our 18U program, provides us with a unique opportunity to offer a long-term development platform to our student athletes.”

The coaching staff for the OHO 16U team will be named in the coming weeks.

Located in Whitby, Ont., Okanagan Hockey Ontario is a Hockey Canada Accredited School and proud member of the Ontario Hockey Federation and Ontario Minor Hockey Association. Our primary focus is to promote the long-term development of each of their athletes in the classroom, on the ice, and in the community. All students attend Henry Street High School. Students participate in the Academy for Student-Athlete Development (ASAD) program, run out of the Abilities Centre, which focuses on academic (post-secondary approved programs, study hall and tutoring) and athletic (strength and conditioning, technical training, sport psychology and nutrition) support, ensuring they are equipped with the resources they need to excel in both sport and the classroom. The strength and conditioning component of the program is executed in partnership with Elite Training Systems.

At OHA, I had an opportunity to play with some of best players in the country and had coaches that pushed me to be my best, positioning me to play for the Penticton Vees and now the University of Denver.
