OHA Penticton General Manager Scott May announced today that Jeff Urekar has been named the Head Coach of the OHA Penticton U15 Team.
“OHA is very fortunate to have landed Jeff as a Head Coach within our program. His skill set, communication style and passion for the game align with OHA’s vision and he will be a great addition to the coaching staff. Jeff has worked with every level of minor hockey and most recently within the BCHL, giving him the ability to help guide and assist our student-athletes through the levels of the game and help them reach their next goals.” Scott May
Urekar will join the OHA after spending the last 4 seasons with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL – first as the Head Scout and later as the Assistant General Manager/Assistant Coach.
Prior to his time with the Smoke Eaters, Jeff spent 5 years with the Vancouver North East Chiefs in the U18 AAA League (Previously BCMML), holding several roles including Head of Scouting, Associate Coach and Head Coach. During his tenor as Head Coach, the Chiefs finished with an overall record of 32-12-7.
Additionally, Urekar has worked for BC Hockey as a regional camp evaluator for their U15 & U16 programs. With the BC Hockey program, he has also served as Head Coach for both the 2017 U15 BC Cup and the 2018 U16 BC Cup teams. Jeff will be on the bench for the upcoming WHL Cup as an assistant coach for the 2021 Team BC U16 Team.
Jeff has a skill development background and started his own business building spring/summer camps and teaching skills to players U18-U10 in both the Vancouver and Trail area.
"Over the past several years I have had many interactions with staff and players from Okanagan Hockey Academy, in my roles with both the U18 AAA level and the Trail Smoke Eaters. I have always come away with the utmost respect and admiration for the first class organization they operate, including the professionalism of their coaching staff to the character and talent of the student-athletes that attend the program. After speaking with Scott and the rest of the management group at OHG, I felt like our beliefs and ideology on how to develop and lead high level hockey players were very much aligned. I believe this is one of the best hockey development programs in the country and I am excited for the opportunity to work with a very experienced coaching staff, and talented U15 team. I look forward to call the City of Penticton home."

My time at OHA provided me an opportunity to grow as a person and athlete. Without OHA I would not have had the opportunity to play post secondary hockey. The life skills I learned at OHA are skills that I will have with me forever.
