Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) Edmonton is pleased to announce the addition of a U15 team, which will begin play in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League’s (CSSHL) U15 Division this coming season.
The newly formed U15 team will be the fourth team at OHA Edmonton, joining the existing U18 Prep, U16 Prep and U15 Prep teams, adding to the development opportunity and pathway for student athletes attending the program.
OHA Edmonton would like to thank Hockey Alberta for their approval of the new team, as well as our partners Royal Glenora Club and Vimy Ridge Academy for their full support during this process.
“As a proud Hockey Canada Accredited School, we are very thankful to receive Hockey Alberta’s approval to operate an additional U15 team for the 2020-21 season and the approval from the CSSHL Board of Governors to compete in the CSSHL’s U15 Division,” said Randall Weber, General Manager of OHA Edmonton. “We look forward to offering the OHA development model to an additional team of 13 and 14-year-old student athletes looking to enter and participate in our program. We will be offering our 10-month development program to families looking to experience a true student athlete model within our entry level age bracket. We wish to thank our partners for their continued support through our expansion process and we look forward to working with a team of motivated, skilled and committed young student athletes.”
Since 2016, Vimy Ridge Academy, which currently has an enrollment of 850 students from Grades 7-12, has been the educational home of OHA Edmonton, offering flexible timetabling to accommodate individual student needs.
“The staff at Vimy Ridge Academy is excited to welcome another team with OHA to our classrooms in 2020-21,” said Jillian Marino, Principal of Vimy Ridge Academy. “Our partnership with the Okanagan Hockey Academy is a perfect fit with our Sports Alternative Programming as the primary site in the Edmonton Public School Division that provides flexible programming for the student-athletes in the greater Edmonton region. The shared vision for student athletes between the Okanagan Hockey Academy and Vimy Ridge Academy creates the perfect conditions to support both the skill and development of the athlete in the realm of hockey, the academic success of the student, and the personal growth of the young mind as they develop into adulthood with positive leadership and successful interpersonal skills.”
The CSSHL’s U15 Division began play during the 2014-15 season and currently has nine teams across Alberta and British Columbia set to compete during the 2020-21 season.

In 2010 I was fortunate enough to play at the Okanagan Hockey Academy on the Midget Prep team. With coaches like Robert Dirk and Greg Holst it was an unbelievable year. I have to this day still never been on such a close-knit team. It was my first year of midget hockey and that meant a lot more travel. Playing in the CSSHL I got the opportunity to play in some pretty awesome spots. The league helped me learn to stay on top of school, which has helped me not only in college but also in junior. I was able to make an easy jump to junior and college academically with the help of Dave Nackoney, a guidance counselor at Penticton Secondary School who works with all the student athletes. To this day if I need anything he is always more than willing to help. It is the great staff that left such an impression on me, and made it possible for me to be where I am today.
