The Okanagan Hockey Academy is pleased to congratulate Griffin Mendel and Ryan Murphy on being selected in the 2015 USHL Draft.
The USHL Draft features two phases. Phase 1 sees teams select players only under the age of 17, while Phase 2 sees teams select any player that is junior-aged.
Mendel, 16, was selected in the ninth round, 133 overall, by the Madison Capitals in Phase 1 after netting 31 points (7-24-31) in 41 games with OHA Prep White last season. The Kelowna, BC product was selected in the first round, 11th overall, by the Kootenay Ice at the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft after registering nine points (3-6-9) in 17 games with the OHA Bantam Prep team during the 2013-14 season.
Murphy, 17, was selected in the 17th round, 272 overall, by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in Phase 2 after posting 86 points (39-47-96) in 59 games with OHA Prep Red last season. The product of Orono, MN had 56 points (31-25-56) in 53 games with OHA Varsity Red during the 2013-14 season.
My time at OHA provided me an opportunity to grow as a person and athlete. Without OHA I would not have had the opportunity to play post secondary hockey. The life skills I learned at OHA are skills that I will have with me forever.
