PENTICTON, BC – Okanagan Hockey Group Vice-President Dixon Ward announced today that Dennis McKinnon has joined the Okanagan Hockey Academy coaching staff.
"OHA is very excited to have Dennis McKinnon join our coaching staff,” said Ward. “He brings a tremendous amount of experience in evaluating and developing young players in our province. His solid reputation and integrity within the BC hockey circles will only add to the depth of our existing coaching staff.”
McKinnon brings over 20 years of coaching experience to the OHA staff. He is a former head coach with the BCHL’s Trail Smoke Eaters and AJHL’s Sherwood Park Crusaders. McKinnon has also spent time in the WHL as an associate coach with the Tri-City Americans. The Edmonton, AB product is currently a scout with the Vancouver Giants.
McKinnon has been part of the BC Hockey High Performance program for the past 19 years, serving as a Kootenay District Evaluator since 1997. He was the BC Hockey High Performance Coordinator from 2009-10 and was the head coach of the Male U16 and U17 teams from 2001-2004.
“I would like to thank Dixon and OHG President Andy Oakes for the opportunity to work with such a reputable organization as OHA,” said McKinnon. “I am grateful to be given the opportunity to work alongside the great coaches and staff involved in the program. I am excited to continue to pursue my passion for the game of hockey.”
McKinnon and his wife, Heather, have two children, Halle and Reilly.
Choosing Okanagan Hockey Academy was one of the best decisions I have made for my development. The relationships I built with my teammates, coaches, and staff are bonds that will last a lifetime. The structure of the program on and off the ice prepared me to play junior hockey.
