Henderson was drafted to the NHL in 1997 by the Boston Bruins where he played 33 games. Jay played 8 years in the American Hockey League (AHL). During that time, he was a 3-time American Hockey League Calder Cup Champion with the Providence Bruins (1998-99,) Houston Aeros (2002-03,) Milwaukee Admirals (2003-04.)

From 2005-2010 Jay played Pro Hockey in the German Elite Hockey League (DEL), for the Augsburg Panthers and the Frankfurt Lions before moving on to the Innsbruck Sharks in the Austrian Elite Hockey League (EBEL). He finished his time in Europe playing for the Nottingham Panthers in the English Elite Hockey League. Upon retiring from his playing career, Henderson launched his own company, Habitat Hockey in 2010.

From 2011-2013, Henderson held numerous Assistant and Head Coach roles for Hockey Alberta, including multiple times coaching in the Alberta Cup. He went on to become the Assistant Coach with the Western League’s Kootenay Ice until 2015.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jay Henderson to our coaching staff and look forward to him working with our U18 Prep student athletes. Jay has an extensive playing background, which includes games played at the highest level. This, coupled with his own detailed pathway from Junior to the Professional ranks makes him an asset for our own student-athletes. Jay will be able to use his experiences to guide our players through their own development path. Henderson has worked for and with many great organizations, allowing him to bring a high-quality level of experience that we feel falls directly in line with the OHA philosophies.” Randall Weber

“I am beyond excited to be joining the OHA family and culture. The resources that are available to me, including other quality coaches within the program made it a very easy decision.” Says Henderson. “I am very grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to working with these young men on a day-to-day basis.”

We have over 50 years of experience.

OHA helped shape the person I am today in an abundance of ways. The training regime and on-ice practice went a long way in helping me achieve my set goals in hockey, while making the jump to the next level attainable. Ultimately, it was the lessons I learned off the ice that have shaped me the most. From learning to balance school with hockey, to building character and unity with my team. All in all, OHA was the best decision to not only further my hockey career, but also to further myself as a person."
