After posting seven points in four games, Okanagan Hockey Academy alum Joe Hicketts has been named the Denny’s Western Hockey League Player of the Week.
Hicketts, 18, scored once, added six assists and was +5 in four road games for his Victoria Royals last week, including a three-assist performance in an overtime win against the Red Deer Rebels last Tuesday night.
The Kamloops, BC product is currently tied for the WHL lead in points among defencemen with 15 (4-11-15) in 11 games, while his 11 assists have him tied for seventh overall in the league.
Hicketts, who is signed by the Detroit Red Wings, registered 54 points (17-37-54) in 51 games for the OHA Prep team during the 2011-12 season.
Last season, fellow OHA alum Curtis Lazar was named the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week on April 20.
Going to OHA was one of the greatest decisions I have made for my hockey career. OHA prepared me for the next level. Skating, strength, speed, conditioning. I wouldn't be the player and person that I am today if I hadn’t chosen OHA."
