“Each of our participating sports have the opportunity to nominate an athlete to our selection panel,” said Rob Needham, Team BC Chef de Mission. “The primary factor is athletic importance. The other key criteria goes to leadership, demonstrating community volunteerism and also academic performance.

“We had a number of qualified candidates, and we felt very honoured to have Micah emerge from that process as she checked off every box possible in terms of performance, leadership, academic achievement and community contributions.

“We have the ideal athlete for Team BC to march in behind on February 13.”

Hart is currently the captain of the OHA Female Prep team, and will serve in that same role with the BC Under-18 Female team.

“I am very proud and honoured,” said Hart. “We have a lot of amazing athletes in British Columbia and to be chosen to lead the team there is an unbelievable experience.”Micah_Hart1.jpg

Hart currently has 15 points (2-13-15) in 28 games this season with the OHA Female Prep team.

“There are lots of people deserving of this and I know Micah feels honoured to have been selected,” said OHA Female Prep head coach, Jim Fetter. “I know here at OHA she is well respected not only by her teammates and coaches but also by the boy’s teams, along with all the staff members. This says so much about her as a person and her character. We could not ask of a better leader than what we have in Micah.”

The Saanichton, BC product has represented Canada on the national stage on multiple occasions, most recently captaining Team Canada to a silver medal at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship.

“The biggest thing I will take out of my World Championship experience is to just enjoy the moment,” said Hart. “Not looking ahead or looking back, but just to enjoy the moment you are in at all times.”

The 2015 Canada Winter Gamers runs February 13 through March 1 in Prince George. Hart will be joined on Team BC by fellow OHA teammates Olivia Knowles, Alyssa MacMillan, Alley Rempe and Morgan Skinner, while Emma Keenan will suit up for Team Alberta.
