PENTICTON, BC – The Okanagan Hockey Group, in partnership with the Western Hockey League, today announced that WHL Combines Manager Mike Gerrits has accepted a position with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a Player Evaluation Consultant.
“This is a great opportunity for Mike as it has been a personal pursuit of his for many years,” said Okanagan Hockey Group President, Andy Oakes. “We would like to thank Mike for his efforts in getting the WHL Combines project off the ground over the past two years.”
Gerrits had been the WHL Combines Manager since April 2014, overseeing all aspects of the program. Prior to joining the Okanagan Hockey Group he previously worked for Hockey Canada and BC Hockey. He was also a member of the Seattle Thunderbirds scouting staff, and spent three years scouting with the Vancouver Canucks with a focus on amateur free agents playing in the Canadian Hockey League.
The WHL Prospect Combines are designed to assist high level minor hockey players with their skill development and provide exposure to the WHL by participating in comprehensive on-ice & off-ice testing with state of the art equipment designed by Sport Testing Inc.
