The Okanagan Hockey Academy is pleased to congratulate Varsity Red forward Konnar Dechaine on committing to the Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) for the 2014-15 season.
Dechaine was sixth in the CSSHL’s Varsity Division with 25 goals this past season, finishing with 42 points (25-17-42) in 29 regular season games, as well as two points (1-1-2) in two post-season games, helping Varsity Red capture the Varsity Division Championship.
“He is an offensive player,” said Robert Dirk, head coach of the OHA Varsity Red team. “He has great speed, a great shot and good offensive instincts. He is a goal scorer, but over the course of the year he worked on his defensive game and improved as a 200-foot player.”
Dirk notes that the Lac la Biche, Alberta product came to OHA this past season with offensive talent, but says it was the work he put into his all-around game that has him moving on to the next level.
“He always had his offence and goal-scoring ability,” said Dirk. “He became such a better 200-foot player by the end of the season. He took pride in playing defence, killing penalties and doing the little things that coaches at the higher levels want all their players to do.”
The Bobcats, which play in the AJHL’s North Division, finished the 2013-14 campaign with a record of 31-23-4-2.
At the end of grade nine, my parents and I decided it would be beneficial for both my hockey and scholastic development to attend OHA the next year. We toured other hockey academies, but ultimately felt OHA was the best fit for me. The coach’s and trainer’s expertise allowed me to learn more about the game, further develop my skills, strength and stamina and readied me to enter the WHL as a competent and confident 16 year old. With the support of great teachers and tutors my grades improved and I made friends that will last a lifetime. I highly recommend OHA for the player who is looking to take their game, grades and life skills to the next level."
